Mark Sontag, B.A., M.A.
Director of Curriculum
Mark Sontag joined C4L Academy in 2016 to revise math and science curriculum; led the C4L Academy Accreditation by AdvancEd (now Cognia) in 2017. He has been the Director of Curriculum from 2017 through present and is Advisor to the C4L Academy Governing Board.
Mark came to C4L Academy with 40 years of experience in public education with the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD). During his tenure with IUSD, he taught middle school and high school math and science, was a middle school assistant principal, and finished his career with IUSD as Director of K-12 Math and Science where he served as principal of the district’s Elementary Science specialist program among other duties. Mark was honored by being selected as IUSD Middle School Teach of the Year in 1998 and the Association of California School Administrator (ACSA) of the Year for Region 17 in 2007. From 2002 through 2018, Mark served on ACSA’s Legislative Policy Committee, the last 6 years as Chair. Mark was also in charge of IUSD’s solar energy project, which at the time was the largest in California.
As Director of Curriculum for C4L Academy, Mark has been responsible for the overall structure of the curriculum, writing the Science and Math courses and revising the Social Science, Language Arts, and Elective courses as needed. Mark successfully chaired C4L Academy’s accreditation with Cognia in 2017. Mark also serves on the C4L Academy Board of Directors.
